The Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) of the University of Leicester and the TyPA Foundation come together to offer a committed look at the future of museums and their social purpose.
On the ocassion of International Museum Day, we call on museum professionals to participate in the "Actions and exhibitions to decolonize museum narratives" contest.
During the month of February, the Forums aimed at Southeast Europe and South Asia were held. Colleagues from more than twelve countries participated and had the opportunity to discuss the future of museums.

Throughout 2022, the director and founder of Fundación TyPA, Américo Castilla, was present at different conferences in Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom. Future, education, exhibition techniques and strategies of meanings were some of the topics addressed.
During November, TyPA Foundation organized together with INTERCOM the African Museum Directors Discussion Forum on Governance and Stakeholder Management and the Global Museum Directors Forum on Digital Strategy.
On August 24th, in the framework of the 26th ICOM General Conference held in Prague, the ICOM Extraordinary General Assembly approved a new museum definition.
More than 40 museum leaders from Latin America shared their experiences in an essential dialogue to think about the future of museums.
From the first lines, this publication focuses on the social function of the museum, on its responsibility with the territory in which it is located, and on the conditions to link to the community and contribute to it.
Within the framework of the open conferences organized by Fundación TyPA, we present a dialogue between Ana Longoni and Américo Castilla.

In celebration of the 2021 Centenary of Raymond Williams’ birth, this video-podcast produced by Fundación TyPA explores how his ideas circulated in Latin America, and reflects on his contemporary relevance.
This course explored the potential of the Museum as a space for learning, where people can discuss possible futures and build knowledge not only to understand the world around them but also to transform it.
How can Museums implement a digital strategy without neglecting their social role? This course invited participants to momentarily put analytics aside and reflect on the kind of interaction that is sought and obtained through digital connections.
The Museum Bares its Coloniality explored the languages and actions that challenge the Eurocentric narratives and interpretations on which the Museum was founded, and the alternatives that emerge in the world.
Throughout three online courses and together with relevant experts and participants, the TyPA Lab 2021 oscillated between theory and practice to understand the role that museums can play in this time of ongoing changes.
MUSEUMS PROGRAMS
In order to promote the activation of ideas around their heritage, museums need to have a dynamic and welcoming space. Organized by Fundaciones Grupo Petersen in alliance with Fundación TyPA, Museums Factory was a training program that sought to effectively and sustainably link museums with the communities that share their mission through the design of a communal space.
During 2020, the TyPA Lab on Museum Management switched to an entirely online format, with three courses that fostered spaces for collective reflection and discussion between more than 150 professionals from Latin America and the world.
MUSEUMS PROGRAMS
After a first edition in Buenos Aires in 2015 and a second one in Medellin in 2017, Reimagining the Museum had its third edition in Oaxaca, the most biodiverse state in Mexico, from November 20 to 22, 2019.
For two years, Fundación TyPA, together with Fundación Banco de Santa Cruz, professionals from the province and local allies, worked on the development of a new exhibition for the Museo Mario Brozoski of underwater archeology.

A convening for museum professionals, created and organized by Fundación TyPA - Teoría y Práctica de las Artes (Argentina) and the American Alliance of Museums (United States). This upcoming edition will take place in Medellín (Colombia) on November 1st-3rd, with Parque Explora as local host.

As part of the 2016 edition of the TyPA Lab on Museum Management, Fundación TyPA organizes an open conversation among professionals from different institutions in the region on issues of public domain and audiences.

Américo Castilla - President of TyPA Foundation- was invited to attend to the Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo AAM / American Alliance of Museums, the largest gathering of museum professionals in the world. There, he participated in lectures, business meetings and exclusive visits to various museums; generated new contacts and strengthened ties with international colleagues who work closely with TyPA activities.
The International Seminar “Art and Social Integration II” organized by the Picasso Museum from Málaga, Fundación Cisneros and Fundación Proa will be enriched by “En Red“, a one day conference of linkage and projects consultancy. A day dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of projects, organized by Fundación TyPA.

Américo Castilla, President of the Foundation TyPA, was appointed co-chairman at this internationally renowned meeting that brought together leading international practitioners to discuss the role of libraries and museums in the age of participatory culture.
During her three-month stay in Argentina, Janet Kamien shared her expertise with Argentine museum professionals through a series of workshops, lectures, presentations and other consultancy services organized by Fundación TyPA
Fundación TyPA and Espacio Fundación Telefónica have organized two days of debate open to the public, as well as one day of practical workshop, on the influence of new digital tools and of participatory culture in museums.
Janet Kamien – Consultant, Museum Group, USA – coordinated this workshop in which almost twenty professionals from museums in Argentina discussed this subject and were instructed on visitor research techniques.

TyPA Foundation, with the National History Museum, organized the reflection meeting, concepts' analysis and exhibition design workshop, VISIBLE / INVISIBLE, about representations of Afro-argentinian culture in museums. Coordinated by Américo Castilla (TyPA Foundation President) and Jose Antonio Perez Gollan (Director of the National Historical Museum).
This program offered workshops on new investigations and best practices for the conservation of contemporary art. Specialists from the the MoMA, Guggenheim, The Getty Conservation Institute and the Museo Reina Sofia gathered in Buenos Aires to discuss with local museum specialists methods and strategies for conserving contemporary art.
Two museum specialists, Leslie Bedford and Américo Castilla led a discussion at the Museum of Bellas Artes in Salta. The conference was attended by more than fifty museum professionals in the region.
Museum specialists Elain Heumann Gurian (USA), Leslie Bedford (USA) and Américo Castilla (Argentina), met with twenty selected participants to discuss the latest developments on creativity and museum organization.
Led by Leslie Bedford (Education Leadership in Museums, Bank Street College, New York) and Will Crow (Metropolitan Museum, New York) this discussion focus on new trends in exhibitions and public interaction and experience in museums.
